What Is Amine Impregnated Activated Carbon?

Active Carbon with Amine Impregnated Active Carbon is a chemical reinforced active carbon that is generated by loading an amino acid (TEDA), MEA (MEA) or other amine derivatives into an inner hole surface of a high quality active carbon substrate by means of a controlled wet immersion or vapor phase deposition method. The amine compounds are evenly distributed in the micro-holes and mesozoles of the carbon in a well-controlled manner, with careful drying and conditioning of the final product to assure stability of amine retention and consistency in the field.

What essentially differs from normal active carbon by using an amine-impregnated active carbon is that it introduces a chemical absorption mechanism in addition to traditional physical adsorption. While unmodified activated carbon captures contaminants primarily through van der Waals forces and surface adhesion, the amine functional groups grafted on the carbon surface engage in a selective chemical reaction with acid and polar gas molecules – creating a stable chemical bond that entraps the target pollutants at a much more efficient rate than mere physical adsorption.
