What Is Wood-Based Activated Carbon?

Wood Based Active Carbon is a versatile, high surface area absorbent material that can be obtained from various types of wood resources – wood shavings, wood shavings, and wood-treatment residues from sustainable forest and timber production. The manufacturing method generally includes chemical activation by means of zinc chloride, phosphate or potassium hydroxide, or alternatively by means of vapor activation, whereby the primary wood material is transformed into a highly porous carbon structure having an extremely developed inner surface.

What distinguishes wood based active carbon from shell or coal is its natural high macropore and metastable content. This open-walled, large-pore structure provides a distinctive absorption pattern – especially efficient in trapping high-molecular-weight organic compounds, colorants, and complicated organic pollutants that are difficult to absorb effectively. The product is an active carbon that excels at the liquid phase decoloring, purifying, and polishing applications in the field of food, medicine, and chemistry.
